Marty & Judy's Wedding

the wedding party
My wife and I just returned from a road trip to Barnum, MN for my brother's wedding this past Saturday. We drove from St. Louis to Cedar Rapids on Thursday night and drove the rest of the way to Moose Lake on Friday. We checked in to the motel there and barely had time to change for the rehearsal in Barnum. That was followed by the Groom's Dinner (which apparently is Minnesotan for Rehearsal Dinner).

County Hwy 61 to BarnumThe midweek forecast for the area was for a slim chance of flurries Sunday morning with a low near 32 so we packed light jackets. The actual weather involved an atypical(?) spring snowfall Friday night followed by temperatures well below freezing with high winds and impressive wind chills.
The wedding was Saturday morning followed by a brief lunch reception. We got to visit with my niece and nephew (Katie and Ryan) and meet Ryan's wife Audrey.
Saturday evening, we made the drive to Gordy's Hi Hat Drive-Inn in Cloquet for a diner-style burger with my Mom, Bob (brother), Marilyn (sister), Ryan, Audrey, her parents, Marty's former wife and her husband. Following that we took a brief driving tour of Duluth before returning to Moose Lake in the middle of a snow squall.

Sunday we drove all the way back home. The temperature warmed up from 27 in Moose Lake to 58 in Iowa before cooling off to about 55 before we made it back to St. Louis.

I think next time we'll only visit that part of Minnesota in the summer. Someone please let me know what two weeks that will be this year!

Jettisoned Thoughts

Okay, so I've finally succumbed to the ego tripping siren call of a blog. As with many other endeavors, I suppose that only time will tell if anything meaningful will have been posted here.
